Wahyu 6:6

6:6 Then ¹  I heard something like a voice from among the four living creatures saying, “A quart ²  of wheat will cost a day’s pay ³  and three quarts of barley will cost a day’s pay. But ⁴  do not damage the olive oil and the wine!”

Wahyu 18:7

18:7 As much as ⁵  she exalted herself and lived in sensual luxury, ⁶  to this extent give her torment and grief because she said to herself, ⁷  ‘I rule as queen and am no widow; I will never experience grief!’

[6:6]  ¹ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

[6:6]  ² tn BDAG 1086 s.v. χοῖνιξ states, “a dry measure, oft. used for grain, approximately equivalent to one quart or one liter, quart. A χ.of grain was a daily ration for one pers.…Rv 6:6ab.”

[6:6]  ³ tn Grk “a quart of wheat for a denarius.” A denarius was one day’s pay for an average worker. The words “will cost” are used to indicate the genitive of price or value; otherwise the English reader could understand the phrase to mean “a quart of wheat to be given as a day’s pay.”

[6:6]  ⁴ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast present in this context.

[18:7]  ⁵ tn “As much as” is the translation of ὅσα (Josa).

[18:7]  ⁶ tn On the term ἐστρηνίασεν (estrhniasen) BDAG 949 s.v. στρηνιάω states, “live in luxury, live sensually Rv 18:7. W. πορνεύειν vs. 9.”
